【英文寫作指南】認清pander to 與cater to

這兩個英文字詞，中文都有迎合的意思，但前者用於迎合人或人的偏見，後者用於迎合人的需求或口味，兩者不可混為一談，如：

pander to
1. 有些報社認為他們必許迎合讀者的偏見。
Some newspapers feel they have to pander to the prejudices of their readers.
2. 不要迎合小孩，要甚麼給甚麼對他們不好。

Don't pander to the child, it's not good for him to have everything he wants

cater to
1.他們只出版迎合大眾市場的小說。

They only publish novels which cater to the mass market.
2. 我們的人員會迎合你的一切需求。

Our staff will cater to your every need.
