學英文、做中英翻譯時，是不是常遇到這種狀況：同一個英文字或成語，查字典明明有定義，套進句子裡卻覺得哪裡怪怪的？換一個語境，同一個字的中文說法完全不一樣；有些看起來意思相近的英文成語，換個場合用卻不能互換。只靠字典定義或習慣譯法，常常抓不到真正的語意，也很難找到自然精準的中文對應。

這本書在教什麼

《莊修談翻譯》是鄭光立老師（筆名「莊修」）四十餘年翻譯實務、英文語彙研究與辭典編纂經驗的精華集。多年來，鄭老師陸續編寫《Klin Cheng 英文辭典系列》，協助讀者查詢語詞與成語的中英對應；《莊修談翻譯》則進一步說明這些答案是怎麼來的——不只是「怎麼翻」，更著重「為什麼這樣翻」，兩者相互補充，希望為讀者建立明確的翻譯思考脈絡。

鄭老師治學嚴謹，對字義與語境從不輕易下結論，面對看似理所當然的譯法，總會再找更多例句、反覆驗證，直到找到更自然、精確的中英對應。《莊修談翻譯》是他於 2025 年退休前交付的書稿，也是他一生研究翻譯的觀念、方法與成果的完整呈現。
