從有英文教育以來就不斷誤譯的英文單字：dinner
Is it time for dinner yet? 要吃飯了嗎？
After dinner sit a while, after supper walk a mile. 飯後坐一下，晚餐後走一哩。
符合中文情境的英文口語
1. 媽，晚上吃甚麼？ Mom, what's for dinner tonight?
2. 可吃飯了，鋪上桌巾。Dinner is ready. Spread the tablecloth
3. 我們有八個人來吃飯。 We've got eight people coming to dinner.
4.或許我們應請他們吃飯。Perhaps we should invite them to dinner .
1.Dinner will be ready at six O'clock. 晚餐六點弄好。
2.The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner. 這家餐廳每天供應午餐跟晚餐。
3.The dinner was a formal affair. 晚宴是正式場合。
才說dinner不要翻譯為「晚餐」，怎麼自己馬上這樣翻？打臉自己嗎？不是的，因為
句子1有寫六點，當然可以說晚餐，句子2 有午餐分別，另一餐就是晚餐，句子3 提到正式場合，就是晚宴。
dinner is ready=飯已煮好
要大家不要把dinner翻譯為晚餐，並不是說把dinner 翻譯為晚餐是錯的，而是說，dinner有多種用法，不考慮使用語境，看到dinner就翻譯為晚餐，每每會發生錯誤，如小孩吃飯不專心，爸媽跟他說：
eat your dinner, 就是叫他吃飯的意思，不能翻譯為「吃你的晚餐」，這情況，就跟He didn't eat a bite of his dinner(他一口飯也沒吃), I made this dinner for you.(我為你做這頓飯)一樣，dinner 意指the food prepared for a dinner，不是說晚餐 ，在很多地方，dinner就只是「餐」(meal)的意思，如：
We ate dinner in silence. 我們默默用餐
I just had a big dinner. 我才吃了一頓大餐
It had been a pleasant dinner. 這是愉快的一餐
但，最常用的意思還是「吃飯」，如：At least, stay to dinner.(至少，留下來吃飯)、Come with us to dinner(跟我們去吃飯)，這都是我們平常說的話。
同為老外人士的說法：
1. Dinner is the largest meal of the day.
Supper is the meal eaten in the evening.
SOMETIMES supper is dinner. Sometimes lunch is dinner (especially Sunday).“
2. Lunch” and “supper” are the light meals eaten at noontime or evening respectively.
Thus:
If we take the largest meal in the middle of the day, we eat breakfast, dinner, and supper.
If we take the largest meal in the evening, we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
