【常用新聞英文語彙】condescending 是什麼意思?

這個字美國人無所不知，但台灣學子多感陌生，很多教英文的人也不懂，大部分人都被字典的錯誤解釋誤導，以致不知其正確意思，實際上，它用於現代英文時的語意有下面數例：

1.一副高高在上的樣子

These doctors are dismissive, arrogant and condescending. 

這些醫師瞧不起人，狂妄自大，一副高高在上的樣子。

2.傲慢的

He will never say anything condescending or goofy. 

他絕對不會說傲慢的話或蠢話。

3.瞧不起

The article on Michael Jackson’s death was condescending to readers who loved Michael for his music. 

這篇有關麥可傑克遜去世的文章瞧不起喜愛麥可音樂的讀者。

4. 自大

Some Americans were quite condescending. 

有些美國人十分自大。
